Cluster 2: Association of Popular Universities of Extremadura (AUPEX)

AUPEX is a non-profit organization representing 220 rural municipalities in Extremadura (Spain). It works as a network for education, culture, social and digital inclusion, civic participation and sustainability. AUPEX has over 290 staff and reaches more than 100,000 participants annually through lifelong learning, employment and digital skills programs, cultural and heritage actions, social intervention, international cooperation, digital literacy centres, Circular FABs for innovation, and initiatives aligned with the SDGs.

AUPEX contributes to Horizon CL2 calls by strengthening digital, media and civic literacy through community-based approaches. It implements grassroots initiatives to counter disinformation, foster critical thinking and support democratic resilience, especially among adults and vulnerable groups. AUPEX facilitates participatory research with learners, educators and families, provides evidence from non-formal education contexts, and bridges research, practice and policy through multi-actor engagement and co-creation of practical guidance on digital well-being and mental health.
