HORIZON JU CBE 2026 IA 01: Institute for the Research in Agrifood Resources (INURA) of the University of Extremadura

The Institute for Research in Agrifood Resources (INURA) of the University of Extremadura brings together over 80 researchers across 15 groups. Its mission is to enhance the quality, safety and sustainability of agri-food products along the full value chain, from field to table. INURA focuses on sustainable production, valorisation of by-products, circular economy, development of differentiated foods, and assessment of healthy diets using digestive models and microbiome analysis.

Valorisation of waste and by-products to create high-value, sustainable bio-based ingredients using green technologies, including supercritical CO₂, microwave-assisted, and scalable ultrasound extraction. Development of functional foods, encapsulated or freeze-dried ingredients from proteins and dietary fibres, validated with industry partners (Nutrisens, Natac). Applications include healthy diets, nutrition for older adults, and specialised or medical nutrition.
