Innovative approaches for the deployment of Positive Energy Districts

The Horizon Europe call HORIZON-CL5-2026-02-D4-04 focuses on innovative approaches for the deployment of Positive Energy Districts (PEDs). While previous projects have proven the technical feasibility of PEDs, this topic aims to overcome remaining technical, social, organisational, and business barriers to achieve climate-neutral and net-positive energy performance at district level. Proposals should demonstrate scalable solutions integrating renewable energy, storage, smart technologies, and local energy communities, supported by appropriate local planning frameworks. Projects must be implemented in at least three districts in different geographical contexts and actively involve public authorities, citizens, and private stakeholders through co-creation processes. Social sciences and humanities expertise is required to enhance public acceptance, inclusiveness, and replicability. The call opens on 16 September 2025 and closes on 17 February 2026.
