Cluster 3: Association of Popular Universities of Extremadura (AUPEX)

AUPEX is a non-profit organization representing 220 rural municipalities in Extremadura (Spain). It works as a network for education, culture, social and digital inclusion, civic participation and sustainability. AUPEX has over 290 staff and reaches more than 100,000 participants annually through lifelong learning, employment and digital skills programs, cultural and heritage actions, social intervention, international cooperation, digital literacy centres, Circular FABs for innovation, and initiatives aligned with the SDGs.

AUPEX contributes to Horizon CL3 DRS calls through citizen engagement, community-based preparedness and Social Sciences and Humanities expertise. It supports inclusive risk awareness, disaster preparedness and behavioural change, with focus on vulnerable groups and rural areas. AUPEX provides real-life pilots to validate tools, risk communication and multi-hazard models, facilitates stakeholder co-creation, and supports user-centred validation, training, dissemination and uptake of disaster risk and search-and-rescue solutions, enabling scaling and replication across territories.
