Cluster 6: Association of Popular Universities of Extremadura (AUPEX)

AUPEX is a non-profit organization representing 220 rural municipalities in Extremadura (Spain). It works as a network for education, culture, social and digital inclusion, civic participation and sustainability. AUPEX has over 290 staff and reaches more than 100,000 participants annually through lifelong learning, employment and digital skills programs, cultural and heritage actions, social intervention, international cooperation, digital literacy centres, Circular FABs for innovation, and initiatives aligned with the SDGs.

AUPEX contributes to Horizon CL6 calls through community co-creation, living labs and citizen science. It supports ecosystem restoration, biodiversity protection, water resilience and sustainable rural competitiveness by engaging citizens, local authorities and stakeholders in co-designed pilots, education and capacity building. AUPEX delivers participatory training, implements community-led interventions for nature restoration, healthy ageing diets and rural innovation, and enables citizen-led monitoring to generate evidence for policy uptake and scalable solutions across Europe.
