MSCA-PF: 2026: Scalable hydrogen generation from raw biomass through advanced PEC technology. Iberian Center for Research in Energy Storage (CIIAE | Supervisor)

Rayees Ahmad Rather is Senior Researcher in Photo(electro)catalysis for synthetic fuels and chemicals at CIIAE. He holds a PhD in Chemistry and has over 10 years of international research experience in photocatalysis, water splitting, CO₂ conversion, hydrogen production and pollutant remediation, with previous positions in Hong Kong, China and the USA. His expertise includes nanomaterial design, photo(electro)chemical characterisation, PEC systems and solar fuel production. He also contributes to supervision, proposal writing, scientific dissemination and international collaboration.

CIIAE provides advanced facilities for the full cycle of materials research, from synthesis to application. Our expertise includes wet, hydrothermal, solvothermal and sol-gel synthesis, focusing on high-entropy materials, MXenes and quantum dots. Characterisation capabilities include XRD, Raman/FTIR, SEM, TEM, NMR, EPR, UV-Vis, GC-MS and electrochemical analysis. We support research on H₂ production, CO₂ conversion, N₂ fixation and PFAS remediation, from TRL 0–4 to pilot photo(electro)catalytic systems. We actively seek European academic and industrial collaborations in materials science
