HORIZON-CL5-2026-07-D1-05: Space & Earth Sciences (SpES) Research Group of the University of Extremadura
- QUIENES SOMOS:
UEX is Extremadura’s main public research institution, with 4 campuses, 24,000+ students, and 2,400 researchers, internationally recognised (Shanghai Ranking, Campus of International Excellence, EU GREEN Alliance). The SpES Group specialises in historical climate reconstruction, index development from past records, natural hazards, and data recovery, including solar activity indices like the Sunspot Number, and studies in Earth and Space Sciences such as remote sensing, solar radiation, ozone, water vapor, and extreme value analysis.
- QUE OFRECEMOS:
The team has extensive experience in recovering historical geophysical and meteorological data, essential for improving climate and weather models, particularly for Africa. This includes work on 18th–19th century records from Latin America, the Caribbean and Africa, such as geomagnetic observations by explorers and early instrumental weather data from Central Africa and Equatorial Guinea. These studies demonstrate strong expertise in data rescue, historical climate reconstruction and integration of recovered data into modern climate research.
